Meet the Heimos Family

I met this sweet family through a mutual friend of ours and was honored when they asked me to take their family photos. I have usually gone to a park to do family photos, but they had requested a city setting and I was happy to oblige! I’m so pleased with how they turned out, as this was my first time capturing family moments with brick backdrops. Here are a few of my favs…

I hope to capture more of this beautiful family as the years go by. Contact me today to book your family session!

Amie + Haley + Avery

I had a fun evening with my friend Amie and her gorgeous girls a few days ago. These girls, with their big personalities and pretty white lace dresses, had so much fun playing chase, doing twirls, making wishes and capturing memories. Here are a few favorites…

I just adored capturing their energy and larger than life personalities! And their sweet little moments too. Thanks for the fun night, ladies!

The Tough Guy Bucket

One of my very good friends recently had a baby boy.

Naturally, I packed up my camera, a few props, and headed to Washington D.C. to photograph the world’s newest cutie. My friend, Lisa, was never one to want to photograph her baby in a “bucket” (her words, not mine 😉 ) but nonetheless, she agreed so I could practice my skill.

I was literally there for less than 24 hours, so I opted not to check a bag. With my VERY limited prop stash, Lisa and I made do with whatever baskets and other little items she had laying around the house—even including her pup’s toy basket!

We wanted some variety in shapes and sizes, so we decided a trip to Target was in order. And who better to make the run than her hubby? We sent him with a list of other random items needed around the house and the superior task of obtaining a “bucket” for photos.

In hindsight, I really should have clarified that when we said bucket, we really meant basket.

A bit later, Nick returns with what I believed to be a diaper organizer and a mop bucket. As he set the bucket down, he said “this is the tough guy bucket!”

Oh my goodness did we laugh so hard! So hard that I thought she was for sure going to pop her stitches. After all photos were done, we obviously had to do a “touch guy” pic… in the mop bucket… with some tools. Hope that pic finds a good place on your desk, Nick 😉 Enjoy!

Here are a few more photos from his sweet little home session.

Patience

I joined a mom’s group last fall, and met some amazing women. One in particular was Jessica, about 6 months pregnant. She so kindly agreed to let me photograph her baby, due in December. Now Jessica is a seasoned mama, having three already. She had three boys at home and a surprise gender on the way. Naturally, she was hoping for a girl, but had her mind set it was a boy. But the stars aligned, forces joined and gave Jessica and her family the baby girl they’d dreamed of. I cried when I found out, and I’d only just met her. Patience is what they named their sweet girl. Beautiful and appropriate in every way.

After doing her newborn photos (my first true newborn since my workshop), I thought we should go ahead and do all her milestone months in a year, three, six, nine and one year. It’s so special to be able to watch these babies grow and thrive. I’ve loved seeing how much Patience changes each time I photograph her. I love it so much, I decided to offer this as a package: Newborn, three, six, nine month and one year with a cake smash. All bundled to save my clients some dollars and allow them to walk away with photos to cherish for a lifetime.

Here are some photos from Miss Patience’s sessions so far. We’ve got more to go! UPDATE: Patience turned one, so I can share some photos from all of her sessions. I hope I get to see her again soon!

Maggie Mae turns one

Under the Willow Photography LLC

This little girl turned one in January, and had a “Winter ONEderland” themed birthday party. It was an exciting time, not only because this sweet girl was marking her first year, but also because it would be my first time using my new lighting system! Though I love natural light, its nice not to have to rely on it. With studio light, I don’t have to constantly adjust my settings, and its particularly nice for newborn sessions because the light helps create that creamy, warm glow. Still figuring it all out, but this was a fun start! Here are a few photos from Maggie Mae’s cake smash.

Come see me for your baby’s first cake smash! Its such a fun session!

What’s in a name

Under the Willow Photography LLC

I’ve had an interest in photography for many years now, and after having children of my own, my focus became very clear… I loved photographing my babies and friend’s babies and friend’s friends babies. They’re just so precious, innocent and adorable, and I love to capture that as much as I can. After some thought, some classes and a two day workshop in Kansas City, MO with two AMAZING newborn photographers, I decided to try my hand at photography as a business, with newborns and children being my target subjects.

Ok, so I would do this as a profession. Now, what do I name my business? I thought about it for months. I wanted something that sounded natural, as my style is somewhat earthy and natural. I love trees. You could call me a tree hugger. And my favorite tree is the Willow. There is just something majestic about the Weeping Willow. Growing up, we had three big willows in our back yard, with our swing set underneath. We’d play and play, climb and swing from the willow’s branches. As a grown up, any time we’re out picnicking or hanging at a park, I’m usually searching for the nearest willow to set up camp under. So many fond memories come from Under the Willow. So there you have it. My name of my venture.

Excited to be starting this journey and creating beautiful images of your precious little ones.

Love & Joy,
